To gain the right or the opportunity or the flexibility to lead, you must first take whatever means necessary to be a servant to those who are leading. I'm reminded of "So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven." Phil 2 has hit me a lot lately in this regards. Jesus vividly and explicitly came as the ultimate example of a servant leader. Practically, I'd say it is just the process of earning or gaining rapport.
