“Who are you going to have breakfast with tomorrow and how are you going to treat them?”
Eugene Peterson was asked by an interviewer what would he say if he was giving his last sermon:
“I think I would want to talk about things that are immediate and ordinary. In the kind of world we live in, the primary way that I can get people to be aware of God is to say, ‘Who are you going to have breakfast with tomorrow and how are you going to treat them?’ I just want to pay attention to what people are doing, and help them do it in acts of faith and prayer. I guess I’d want to say, ‘Go home and be good to your wife, treat your children with respect, and do a good job at whatever you’ve been given to do.”
