Mat Kearney - Nothing Left To Lose

I just picked up Mat Kearney’s second release.  It looks like he has gone with a new label and is re-releasing half a dozen songs off his first album.  I know he’s getting some main stream air play too.  I heard the song, “Nothing Left To Lose” in Best Buy.

In the “Christian” music world longing for a new voice, Mat Kearney represents the singer-songwriter for the 21st century. I think this guy is the most creative, original thing to hit music in a while.  Keeping with an acoustic base, Kearney incorporates a wide range of influences that color his songs. At the same time, he captures the kinds of lyrics that reach down deep and stir us.  He’s got one of those sounds that sticks with you through the day.

If I were you… I’d pick this up.

I’m not a fan of Kearney. I didn’t take to the first album, and I don’t know why. Just not my thing right now.

I will agree that the Christian market is full of mundane, common and outdated talent. The good thing is that more and more of those who would otherwise be stiffled by that market are getting out into mainstream in a good way. You have to wonder if God just said “you’re too big for your britches, time to go back to your mid 90’s status with being 10 years behind mainstream”.

    btw…get the CD?
