TEN

Joanna and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary tonight with dinner at Hyde Park (compliments of her thoughtful family).
It was ten years ago from yesterday that I married my best friend. I’m so glad we made that decision and decided not to wait any longer.
This poem from Margaret Atwood titled “Habitation” reminds me a lot of these last ten years. Sometimes I feel like we are just learning how to make fire.
Marriage is not a house or even a tent
it is before that, and colder
the edge of the forest, the edge of the desert
the unpainted stairs at the back where we squat outside
eating popcorn
the edge of the receding glacier where painfully and with wonder
at having survived even this far
we are learning to make fire

Congratulations my friend. Man, 10 years. Amazing. You’re reaching a milestone that too many in our age group never see. That’s definitely a clear indication of God’s hand in both of your lives.
Grace and peace!

Thank you for being the man I dreamed of and prayed for as a young girl. I love you with all my heart.
