Ted Haggard

I’m catching up on the news of Ted Haggard before I go to sleep. I just read the letter he wrote to his congregation where he confessed to the allegations and revealed his years of struggling with sexual sin.

The whole thing is sad… tough… scary… embarrassing… examining… hurtful… a wake-up call… a moment to look at ourselves in the mirror… sobering… confusing…

I feel for his family. In one moment their dad was their greatest hero. In the next moment he hurt them the worst. I feel the weight of the responsibility that God has given me as a father and a husband.

And I had just bought one of his books last week to give to a friend.

At first I was saying to myself that God doesn’t allow things done in secret to stay in secret for ever. At the next moment I realized, as you did, man this guy has got 5 kids who’s lives will never be the same. That’s rough.

It makes you realize that you can’t follow the man no matter how great he seems. I see so many pastors that are so greatly looked upon to the state that is completely unhealthy. What happens to the believers of his church, or the ones who have been looking into church. The eternal weight of this thing is huge apart from his family. That’s why it’s so important to preach Jesus and Jesus alone; you can’t follow a man.
