Hey I just realized you updated your feed and I was no longer getting it. Thanks to JRat for posting. Anyhow, reading this post and your thoughts about Oprah made me think back to a post I wrote back in January about this whole issue.

I am by no means an authoritative source on the issue, but I am very critical of her efforts, and I do at least have a marginal right to speak, given my experience and continued involvement in education/ministry in Namibia and now in Zambia. I doubt if even Oprah has spent a single day teaching students in a rural school. I've got at least four weeks up on her.

Anyhow, I do agree with your thoughts on "global education". I may not be the smartest tool shed here in the States but I do know that compared to the education I've experienced first hand around the globe, there is a huge need for those of us in the West (preferrably Christians sharing the Gospel) to assist those trying so hard and crying so desperately for something more in terms of educational development.

It's nice to see a post like this, it's inspiring for everyone to think about "what is it I want to make an impact in."
