My Brother Nic

Nicscott

My brother Nic has had a site up and running for the past several months. I think he’s a great writer and he kind of has that “irritated-at-the-church” kind of approach about him. I think you’ll enjoy it. Stop by and show him some love.

New Site Design

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Just did a new site design. Nothing fancy. Just a little more “clean.”

Easter and Crack Pipes

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

My post about our Easter attendance has gotten a lot of comments over the last few weeks. It’s been entertaining to watch. I just posted my first comment to the discussion today. I had to clarify why I used the term “crack pipe” in referring to someone. I have to admit: that’s not the first time I’ve been questioned for calling someone a “crack head.”

#1 On Google

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

One of the teenagers at our church did a search on Google last week for The Church At Polaris. Guess what the number one site was?

She came to me and said, “I searched for ‘The Church At Polaris’ at I found pictures of you and Joanna in bathing suits!”

Cool.

It seems I’ve fallen to number 3 this week.

Top 10 Podcasts

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Here are my favorite podcasts that I listen to on a weekly basis (well… I try to):

1.  Mosaic - Erwin has to be one of the best communicators in the country.

2.  Rob Bell - It’s really not a podcast, but you can get the Mars Hill messages every week through their website.  It’s just a little more work.

3.  Ed Young - How can you not listen to a guy who is leading a 20,000+ church.

4.  The Blogging Church - A variety of different pastors who are blogging and podcasting.

5.  The Naked Scientist - just because I feel like being a geek sometimes.

6.  Bono: The Rolling Stone Interview - Rolling Stone is splitting up their 2 day interview with Bono into podcasts.  My favorite is part 3.

7.  IT Conversations - The lastest coversations in the tech world.

8.  Greg Surratt - Lead pastor from Seacoast Church in South Carolina.

9.  Project Management Podcast - because I dig stuff like this.

10. Engadget - the coolest new tech stuff out there.

What are you listening to?

Comments Fixed

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Sorry about that.  Phil Hollows from FeedBlitz helped me get it fixed.  Turns out:

“You’re probably missing a  tag around the subscription box.  When that happens, forms below it (e.g. add a comment) will used the “action” of the previous one - in this case, subscribing a user.  You probably need to move (or add) a closing  tag before the opening  tag for your comments.”

Simple, quick fix.

Comment Problem

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Sorry about the comment problem. I just realized it and I’m not too sure how to fix it. Anyone have any ideas. Email me at joshuascott@ctkpolaris.org.

Subscribe to my feed

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

My feed changed with this new Word Press site and I know I left some of you behind with the old feed. I know some of you are like, “What’s up with Josh? I haven’t heard from him lately.” Sorry about that.

The new feed is: feed://feeds.feedburner.com/thewayithink

You can also subscribe to the feed via email through FeedBlitz.com. Just type your email address in the side bar and subscribe.

What’s a site feed? What is rss?

I know I have a lot of visitors to my site lately that are new to the blogging world so I thought I would lay out my system for reading blogs.

I use a real simple way of subscribing. I use Apple’s Safari browser, paste in the link and then bookmark it (Safari will also recognize if the site has a feed by placing a blue RSS button in the top right hand corner of the address bar. All you need to do is click on that). Safari will automatically check the feed when it starts up and will let me know if there are any new posts. I scroll through my list of blogs every other day or so and look for new posts.

For all you non-Mac users, I have also used Mozilla’s email program called Thunderbird. This worked out really great for me for awhile, but I started subscribing to too many blogs.

There are lots of different ways to subscribe to blogs. Most programs are called aggregators and can be found by googling. I listed some below.

Google Reader
Bloglines
Newsgator
My Yahoo!

Anyone is free to comment on how they pull their blog subscriptions.

Switched to Word Press

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

Finally.

It took me about 2 weeks to get everything switched from blogger to Word Press. You’ll be seeing some new design and layout modifications in the next few days.

Ohhh… and no baby yet. Today is Jo’s due date. He’ll come out soon.

Thunderbird Trouble

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

I discovered some trouble today with Thunderbird. It wasn’t retrieving rss feeds on most of my blogs. I was wondering where all my friends were at. I was getting ready to call a few people and let them know that they needed to post some stuff.

I switched over to Safari this morning and bookmarked all the sites I was reading. Safari 2.0 automatically pulls the feed. Is anybody else using this?

Oh Snap

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

If you are reading my blog via rss you would not have seen the redesign.

However, if you are not reading my blog via rss you would not have seen this post.

Somewhere in the redesign process, I lost something that actually puts the post on the page.

Sorry!

Monday, April 25th, 2005

I had some problems with my blog today. For those of you who have subscribed via RSS feed, you probably got a duplicate copy of all my entries.

Atom.gif

Friday, April 22nd, 2005

I keep losing my stupid atom.gif on the right column where it says XML Feed. Every time I post, it disappears. I have to go back to Adobe GoLive and reinsert it with the link and update the page. What’s the deal? Anyone have some wisdom?

What’s Working For You

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

What are y’all usin to read and keep track of your blogs?

I’m pretty new at this so I don’t know everything, but I’m assuming that you don’t go to everyone’s blog everyday. I’ve been using Thunderbird recently and that has been working well. Is that the best way? What about bloglines? Anything else?

New Blog

This Takes Time

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

Thanks Joe for helping me get set up today.

I’m up.

Monday, March 28th, 2005

My very first post on my very first blog.

I’m on vacation this week, so I thought it would be a good time to get it started.

Let me send a few shout outs…..

Terry Storch - COO of Fellowship Church. Thanks for getting me interested.

Josh Ratcliffe - Keypoint Church, AK; great friend. I didn’t even know you had a blog until you moved.

Larry Orndorff - Word of Faith Family Church, OH; great friend. You help me keep up on what’s going on over there.

Matt Santone - Studio 8e8; good friend. Thanks for the picture on my header. Your posts are very entertaining to me.

Neil Greathouse - Believer’s Christian Fellowship, OH; Studio 8e8; someone I look up to. I said something to you about blogs and the next week you had one.

I’m going to set this up on blogger.com for now. I’m going to try to move this over to my new site soon.
