I’ve really been into 2 software programs recently: Basecamp and Backpack. You should definitely check these out.

Both are offered by 37Signals.

I started using Basecamp at the church with our Tech team. It allows us to have a central communication point. We have a shared task list that allows you to assign the task to a specific person. Basecamp then emails that person with the task.

It also has a blog feature where we can post and comment and keep a discussion flowing.

There’s a calendar that will sync with iCal or Mozilla’s calendar program.

And to top it all off, there’s an rss feed for the site, so anytime anybody updates or posts, I see it in Thunderbird. Very cool.

Backpack is a personal version of Basecamp and allows me to organize about anything I want. Right now, I am keeping project lists and meeting notes up there.

I am in the free versions of both programs right now. We will most likely upgrade Basecamp soon and integrate it into more areas of our church (our current building campaign would benefit, the youth ministry, a future design team). I’m still undecided on Backpack. It’s very similar to an Outlook-type program, except with the advantage of being able to access it anywhere.

Apple was granted a patent for a tablet device yesterday.

Wow. Check out this video at the Apple website of the new Tiger OS. I think just the Dashboard alone would make me switch to a Mac.
